Clos Maggiore – voted ‘worlds most romantic restaurant’
Based in the heart of Covent Garden, I was lucky enough to spend an evening being wined and dined by my loved one. We celebrated our anniversary here and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
Booking over a month in advance, the only time that we could get a reservation was for 10pm, this just shows how popular Clos Maggiore is. Nevertheless, having dinner later meant that we would have more chance of getting into the conservatory (this is the spot that you really don’t want to miss). The restaurant was beautifully decorated from head to toe with a Christmas theme. There was a real warm, intimate atmosphere inside and we instantly felt comfortable and at ease from the moment we walked in. The staff were incredibly welcoming and very friendly. Their attention to detail was very impressive.
Walls and arches were made up of beautiful greenery with dark wood furniture making the setting utterly beautiful, but it was the conservatory which really made our night special. The glass ceiling was surrounded by cherry blossom flowers entwined with fairy lights that gently curled up, draping the mirrors on the four walls. The fire place was cosy and romantic, perfect for this time of year. It really was worth the wait. Bare in mind, it is never guaranteed that you will get into the conservatory and they advise that you book months in advance.
To drink, we both had an amazing wine and I couldn’t resist my go-to cocktail, a Mojito.
To start, I decided on the Confit & Chargrilled Sicilian Aubergine with Sweet Peppers & Corsican Ricotta and Raj went for the Fragrant Native Lobster & Langoustine Bisque. For the main, we both went for the Honey Glazed Breast of Goosnargh Duck & Crispy Duck Leg Pastilla and to finish; English Raspberries and Meringue dessert. The food was incredibly well presented, it tasted delicious and the timing was impeccable. We are both huge foodies, and I will never go to a restaurant without getting dessert, in fact I usually look at that menu first.
The dress code is well presented and smart, but not necessarily overboard. I wore my simple, black, off the shoulder midi dress and I paired it with my long camel coat, black stilettos and Chanel handbag. Raj looked handsome as ever wearing his grey blazer, black turtle neck jumper, with smart shoes and chinos. I would say we were the perfect amount of ‘dressy’.
We laughed the entire evening and didn’t get home until the early hours. It was the perfect dining experience together.Definitely make your next date night/special occasion, as special as ours. You wont be disappointed.
We can both happily say this was the most romantic restaurants that we had ever been too.
